Thank you for taking part in MobFORMAT: The Press, the world’s biggest mobile photo printing press. After 30 days of nonstop printing and more than 6.000 of your photos put on the wall, The Press closed production last weekend at Format Festival UK.
Making photo sharing tangible
The Press, the world’s first mobile photo press, was a project by our friend & EyeEm Ambassador Misho Baranovic which took place at Format International Photography Festival from March 8 til April 7 2013 in Derby, UK.
The idea: print out the thousands of photos being shared on EyeEm every day and create the largest interactive exhibition the mobile photo world has ever seen.
According to the festival theme “Factory” we kicked off 3 missions to feed The Press:
Each of these missions yielded thousands of photos from all over the world. As soon as a photo was uploaded, The Press printed it on adhesive paper, the guillotine cut it in shape, it was added to the pool full of photos and open to the public to curate it and put it anywhere on the wall in the huge space.
Want to know if your photos were part of it? Here’s the list!
And this is how it looks like when more than 6000 photos are printed & hung on the walls within 30 days:
A collective expression of the power & beauty of photography
Here’s what Misho Baranovic, the man behind the project, says:
Together we made a living and breathing mobile photo stream. The passion of the EyeEm community was channelled through real prints into the hands of festival visitors. Visitors took these beautiful prints and one by one curated an extraordinary exhibition.
Photos were threaded together, revealing universal truths about why we work and what we treasure. MobFORMAT: The Press belongs to everyone who submitted, printed and curated the photographs. It’s a collective expression of the power and beauty of mobile photography – of why we take photos together.
Thank YOU (yes, you) for taking part in this unique project! Thank you Misho for the amazing idea and all your efforts into making it become reality. Thank you Format International Photography Festival for supporting the project.
Misho would like to thank: all the visitors who joined in and curated the show. The FORMAT volunteers who braved the freezing cold to keep the show running. The EyeEm team for believing in the experiment. Severin for going above and beyond to support, promote and install the show. Louise for being the best Festival director ever (and for saying yes to the idea). Michael, Seb, Debbie, Sophie, Jill, Sandra, Federica, Adam and Peter from FORMAT and QUAD for making me feel part of the team. Adrian and John E Wright for the printer and materials. Kapil for collaborating and pushing the idea to a better place. Brendan for the code. Jen, Nettie, Joanne and Richard, Jean-Jacques and Dianne for visiting me. Who knows where The Press is going next? We can’t wait to make it happen.
