Riding in Los Angeles: CicLAvia

Question: what do thousands of Los Angelers do here?

Answer: they are riding their bikes together!

Inspired by the Ciclovias movement from Bogota, Columbia, CicLAvia is an initiative that temporarily takes cars from the streets and makes the road safe for people to walk, play, skate and ride a bike. It’s a great project that raises awareness for alternative means of transportation. And apparently it’s great fun, too!

LA-based Noah Wiles joined the most recent ride and shared it on EyeEm. Here’s his field report:

Bicycling has recently started to catch on in a significant way here in the Los Angeles County areas of Southern California. After I got my bicycle mainly for riding to work, my wife decided that she wanted to have hers built at the Bicycle Kitchen which she had recently heard of.

While there working on her bicycle, we saw a flyer for CicLAVia and it looked like it would be an amazing event to be a part of.We have been hitting every event ever since. It is an amazing feeling to be riding with thousands of other riders on 10 miles of open roads that are free of motor vehicles.

Thanks Noah for sharing this amazing event with us!
